Water reservoirs turned museum
Located in Plaza Miguel López González, Pozos de Garrigós (the Garrigós Wells) is a system of reservoirs with a capacity of more than 800.000 liters, that used to capture and store rain water, that was later distributed to the city by water carriers.
By 1898 Pozos de Garrigós lost their purpose and were used as shelters in the Civil War. Since 2009 the wells host an interesting water museum, Museo Pozos de Garrigós. It’s not at all popular, as tourists prefer to enjoy Alicante’s beaches and nightlife rather than discovering such cultural gems, but if you want to know a bit more about the history of the place, this museum offers excellent insight.
