National park preserving fossilized trees millions of years old
Silicified Wood National Geological Park preserves fossilized tress that are millions of years old. The fossils were formed in the Jurrasic period when volcanic eruptions buried the trees. Slowly the moisture in the trees was replaced by silicoide and the trees became silicified.
Silicified Wood National Geological Park is located on both sides of the White River. Visitors to the park can clearly see the rings in the wood. Some of the fossils still have bark on them.
