Ruins of a historic palace amidst imperial gardens
Yuan Ming Yuan is the ruins of a historic palace. It was built by the Kangxi emperor in 1707. However, it was destroyed in the Second Opium War of 1860. What remains are the beautiful imperial gardens including the restored labyrinth in the Changchun Yuan (Garden of Eternal Spring).
Yuan Ming Yuan is accessible from the bus. The park contains the Xi Yang Lou (Western Mansions). There is a charge to enter the Western Mansions.
