The city that got the ultimate makeover

Beijing is not the city it once was. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing depends entirely on your point of view. Well over a million people have been evicted from their homes to make way for the capital’s astonishingly rapid development, but the result is a more sophisticated, more worldly and more tolerant city. Groundbreaking architecture, plush five star hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants now rub shoulders with relics of the city’s past, be they street hawkers, traditional neighborhoods or UNESCO World Heritage sights.

MAO Live House

Trendy night spot features live rock performances and other artists

Stay Editor's Note

MAO Live House is a trendy night spot that features live rock performances and other artists. Locally, it’s known as the place to go if you want to hear rock ‘n roll music. Drinks are cheap here and the decor is very plain and utilitarian, in keeping with the rock theme.

MAO Live House does have high quality sound equipment and a talented sound engineer. You can tell the difference in the quality of the music. The club is backed by the Japanese record label, Bad News.
