Beijing has a wealth of museums, but unfortunately not all of them are as riveting as you might hope. Nevertheless, the abundance of Chinglish placards have certainly vanished in recent years, and newer projects, such as the Capital Museum, are as impressive as any you'd find in the West. Among the best are the Palace Museum (otherwise known as the Forbidden City), where everything from Qing dynasty vinyl records, jewellery and Peking Opera costumes are on display. Or, for something a little different, head to the Beijing Police Museum. Cracked skulls, Qing dynasty instruments of torture and bloody scraps of evidence all feature.
