Former Hanseatic merchants meeting point
Besides accommodating the larger Hanseatic Museum, which is located just next door, Schøtstuene is a popular attraction in its own right. Schøtstuene is the old assembly rooms in the city, which used to be the most important meeting place for the city’s Hanseatic merchants.
The merchants would converge here to hold meetings, conduct business deals, drink beer, find a nice, hot meal and perhaps, somewhere to sleep it off. The assembly rooms at Schøtstuene are a gripping illustration of Hanseatic merchant life, and are well worth spending 30 minutes or so to walk around following a visit to the more famous Hanseatic Museum.
