Berlin's Central Park
The oldest and largest park in Berlin, Großer Tiergarten is a favorite for locals and tourists. The beautiful green space offers a square mile of leisurely activity for everyone. Miles of paths, the Berlin Zoo, Victory Column, and incomparable landscapes are just a few of the things to see and do here.
Once the exclusive hunting preserve of monarchs, Großer Tiergarten was opened to the public by Prussian King Friedrich I. Friedrich II had the park redesigned to his liking, then later the city zoo took up residence here. Sadly, the park was literally destroyed during WWII, and even the zoo’s animals were decimated.
The city fathers had the park refurbished by 1955, and today millions of people enjoy this historic and wonderful piece of nature in the center of one of the world’s busiest cities.
