Cultures collide in Berlin's retail landscape
Friedrichstrasse in Mitte, studded with new department stores, is the mainstream Berlin shopping axis in the east, while the Kurfürstendamm has long been the western artery of style. Younger and quirkier retail can be found around Rosenthaler Strasse in northern Mitte, but Kastanienalle has the most oddball shops of all. The Stilwerk theme mall has anchored an interior decor quarter on Charlottenburg’s Kantstrasse, and there are intriguing weekly flea markets in just about every district.
