National park for South African penguins

Unfortunate name of Boulders Beach aside, you can’t help but be charmed by the jackass penguins of Boulders. Calm, warm-ish waters and the opportunity to swim with wild animals make this beach a very popular spot with tourists and locals alike.

Named for their distinctive donkey-like honk, they have made themselves well and truly at home on the tiny, sheltered beach – under brush, over boulder, the friendly little flappers get absolutely everywhere and today there are well over 3,000 living here.
