Cape malay history museum
If you want to uncover the rich history of the Cape Malay community and poke around a typical 18th-century home while you’re at it, Bo-Kaap Museum should be circled on your map. Built in the 1760s, it’s the oldest house in the area and still has its original Cape Dutch façade intact.
Inside the restored home at Bo-Kaap Museum, black-and-white photographs dating back to 1910 follow the colorful history of the Cape Malays of the area. Interviews with Muslim women (shop owners, academics and social workers) bring us to the present day, while a photographic exhibition upstairs offers further visual insights into the contemporary cultural and thriving business life of the area.
