Year after year, Chicago hotels are named among the best in the world and in some cases, the very best. The Peninsula, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Park Hyatt still hold the top spots, but in recent year loads of ultra-modern hotels have popped up, some of them known for their lounges and restaurants as much as for their rooms (The James and David Burke’s Primehouse, Affinia and Marcus Samuelson’s C-House Restaurant, The W and Whiskey Sky lounge). Even über-New Yorker Donald Trump got into the action recently when he built a 92-storey hotel and residential tower on the Chicago River. Anyone desiring a bit more charm than flash will be happy to know that the old Chicago standbys are still here, too: The Drake, The Palmer House, the Belden-Stratford, the Ambassador East.
