Operations central for Chicago’s moving bridges
Not all the moving bridges along Chicago’s river are still in operation, but those that are remain controlled at the McCormick Tribune Bridgehouse. Located at the southwest corner of the Michigan Ave. Bridge, you can walk through the bridgehouse viewing engravings and photos of the city’s history.
The Chicago River Museum’s observatory can be found directly under the bridge, giving you a troll’s view of the huge gears that control the moving bridge. To see the gears move, schedule a spot during one of the tours, which occur about six times per month.
