Cologne is a blend of spiritual and secular, an important pilgrimage destination (the relics of the Magi are said to be kept in the Shrine of the Three Kings at the Kölner Dom), and also the host of one of the most exciting and fun carnivals in Germany and the world: the Kölner Karneval that lasts 6 days in February, each year. The city’s most famous landmark, the Dom, is the fourth largest church in the world, and the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe. Cologne is also famous for Eau de Cologne (Kölnisch Wasser) – a fragrance so popular in the 18th century that it became synonym perfume all over the world.
