4711 house

“4711” refers to the French house-numbering system from 1795. All private houses were numbered from 1 to 7404. The Gothic home of the manufacturer of the famous “Eau de Cologne”, also known as 4711, opposite the opera house with a carillon chiming every hour was numbered with 4711. In 1811, the continuous numeration is changed into the system of numbering streets separately, as is done today.
