Where the galleries are as modern as the art they house
The Danish Golden Age of art spans from 1800-1850 and is represented at the Hirschsprung Collection, including paintings from the Skagen artists' colony of the 1880s. The National Gallery (Statens Museum for Kunst) is better suited for viewing 20th century pieces, including the CoBrA artists' group. For Copenhagen art galleries of contemporary art, the proliferation of private galleries along Bredgade are overshadowed these days by the more exciting suburban galleries – try a visit to Nicolai Wallner in Islands Brygge or Mogadishni in Valby.
