High prices; lots of variety
The good news is that Florence hotels offer an enormous range of accommodation options. The bad news is that they are expensive. However, you can opt to stay in anything from a palazzo with fading frescoes and rickety furniture to a sumptuous five-star hotel with all the bells and whistles. In between is a glut of guesthouses that offer relatively good value. Book ahead in high season and look out for bargains in the winter and August.
