A backwards facing museum
Built to house the 1901 International Exhibition the Kelvingrove Gallery and Museum is an interesting structure. Built of red sandstone, people in the city either love it or loath it for its architecture. Intended to face the river rather than the street, it appears backwards.
Collections here range from local historical objects to natural history artifacts and specimens. Interestingly, one of the most popular pieces in the museum is an original Storm Trooper outfit from the Star Wars movie.
A 2007 major remodeling effort made the museum even more popular than before. New exhibitions and interactive aspects for children were added too. This is a great family educational experience, if for nothing more than to experience Glasgow’s past.
