Old Fortress with a Museum & Excellent View
The Skansen Lejon fortress is located in Gullbergshöjden. This fortress was constructed between 1687 and 1689 and was designed by Erik Dahlberg. The old Gullberg fortress, which was built in the 1300s was also located here.
The eastern fortifications in Skansen Lejon and the Gullberg fortress reinforcements were done simultaneously. In 1684, the Skansen Lejon fortress underwent large-scale remodelling. No other major work or renovation has been done on the fortress since.
The Skansen Lejon fortress was formerly named Västgöta Lejon. It is within striking distance from Brunnsparken. Guided tours are conducted here every first and third Sunday of every month.
