Eat hearty, Cuban style, in Havana restaurants
While food is often the number one complaint of visitors to Cuba, independent travellers can eat well in Havana, with a little effort. Cuban food is hearty fare though less spicy than much Caribbean fare. Main ingredients include pork, chicken and rice and beans. Some private Havana restaurants (paladares) offer great dining experiences, notably in the Miramar suburb, with original inventive dishes, while Havana’s swisher hotels and state restaurants are often a good, if expensive, bet for a swanky feed.
