The heart of the city
The highlights in the Senate Square (Senaatintori) are Carl Ludvig Engel's architectural masterpieces. At the center of the square, a statue of Emperor Alexander II, erected in 1894, still reminds of the Diet of Finland. Other than its static attractions, the Senate Square offers a unique show daily.
Every evening carillon music is played to the delight of the tourists gathering around the Emperor's statue. Several concerts, and other artistic events make Senate Square (Senaatintori) even livelier. In the winter, the popular, yet controversial snow board happenings make things exciting and fun.
