Founded as a response against the Russian domination
The Finnish National Theater (Suomen Kansallisteatteri) was founded in 1872 in Pori, a city on the west coast of Finland, as the Finnish Theater. The theater moved to its current premises in Helsinki in 1902, when it also acquired its current name.
The theater's building was designed by Onni Tarjanne in the Jugend style, inspired by romantic nationalism. The Finnish National Theater (Suomen Kansallisteatteri) has played a decisive role in Finnish cultural life for over 130 year.
