A melting pot of ancient and modern attractions
Rightly touted as an east-west melting pot, sights worth seeing reflect colonial and indigenous Chinese influence. Unfortunately, unlike neighbouring Macau or Singapore, Hong Kong’s new-found interest in cultural preservation has come too late. However, some old Buddhist and Daoist temples, shrines and monasteries are still intact, as are a few grand colonial-era structures. Modern Hong Kong attractions mean audacious high-rise buildings and teeming urban streets, but a lesser-known rural contrast also exists and is easily accessed.
