Arts, culture, great food and a festival each month
The history of the Chinese in the city can be traced to 1788, but the history of Chinatown begins in 1884, with the first mention of the neighborhood that occupied at the time 25 acres of downtown Honolulu. Today, Chinatown is one of the most exiting attractions in Hawaii.
With a number of old, historic buildings that contrast with the modern high-rises that border it, Chinatown is like a walk in the past. The first Friday of every month is even more entertaining, featuring live music and street events in what the locals call Chinatown’s First Friday evening festival.
