The Ensemble Theatre was founded in 1976 by George Hawkins, as a touring African American theatre company. The theatre has soon evolved into a professional institution, and it is today regarded as one of Houston’s finest historical cultural institutions.

The Ensemble Theatre produces in-house dramas, comedies and musicals that demonstrate the artistic ability of more than 250 professional local, regional and national artists and support staff. The theatre also offers educational workshops and live performances for students both off-site and at the theatre.
