A beautifully set, world-class collection
The Istanbul Archeology Museum comprises the main Museum, the Enameled Kiosk, paragon of Ottoman civic architecture, and the Ancient Orient Museum. View the splendid ‘Alexander Sarcophagus’, seemingly that of Sidonian King Abdalonymos, among several examples.
This comprehensive collection of ceremonial, funerary and daily artifacts from Turkish, Hellenistic, Roman and Near Eastern cultures lies within the Topkapı Palace grounds. The Museum oversees the dig at Istanbul’s Marmaray transportation project that unearthed a Byzantine harbour. Discoveries are thoughtfully classified by neighbourhood. Meanwhile, ancient playthings capture imaginations in the kids' room, while statuary spreads into the gardens.
