Unpretentious Portuguese
Though famed for two decades for its fantastic food at low prices, Stop do Bairro remains unpretentious, its walls decked with slogans of the ‘You don’t have to be mad…’ variety. The extensive menu takes in bacalhau caras (cheeks), arroz de tamboril, Azorean polvo guisado and cabidela de galinha.
Helpings are generous but hold out for a dessert; most are eggy and a challenge even to gluttons. The wine list is outstanding for this price bracket, starting with a drinkable house Lezíria. No booking so come early or wait your turn.
