Roman ruins in a garden
The Amphitheater of the Three Gauls on the hills of Croix-Rousse, dates from 19 A.D. It is the second oldest Gaul amphitheater in Lyon. Its name comes from the Sanctuary of the Three Gauls, an administrative and religious complex established by Rome in the very late 1st century BC.
The Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls was classified as monument historique (historic monument) in 1961. It is free to visit, and quite worthwhile. You’ll find it at at the foot of the La Croix-Rousse hill. Its ruins are part of the popular Jardin des Plantes.
