Spain's complex capital

Once little more than a Roman way station and Moorish fort, Madrid owes much of its existence to the fickle patronage of the kings of Spain. The city’s transition from sleepy backwater to imperial capital and modern metropolis has been erratic, leaving Madrid with a complex personality. The crowded flea markets of the Rastro, the green spaces of the Retiro, the Habsburg pomp of Los Austrias and the bold vision of the new Reina Sofia museum are just some of the sides of this multi-faceted city.

Stay Editor's Note

Beleza is a simple but elegant cafe for a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner. The menu, while primarily Portuguese fare, has succulent delights for those with a taste for Italian or Mediterranean dishes as well.

The philosophy at Beleza is simplicity with attention to the details that count like superb service and using the best ingredients available. The restaurant is dedicated to the principle that the best meals are taken in a relaxed atmosphere, and while the surroundings at Beleza are not lush or pretentious, the relaxed motif more than makes up for any architectural shortcomings.

For great food, or a drink with friends, with superb friendly service, and a price that suits anyone’s budget, there is no wonder this restaurant is a favorite of locals and travelers.
