You could spend your whole time in Madrid on the Paseo del Arte visiting the incomparable Prado or the Thyssen, but don't miss the smaller and more manageable museums elsewhere. Again, priceless paintings predominate, with the Museo Lázaro Galdiano and the Real Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales holding their own wondrous treasures. The Royal Palace and the Museum of America are fabulous, too, and provide a break when the galleries become a blur.
