America's only Royal castle
Castillo de Chapultepec is situated on top of the Chapultepec Hill and is a grand castle that served many purposes in Mexican history. It used to be an imperial residence, Presidential home, Military Academy, observatory and currently houses the Museo Nacional de Historia.
Castillo de Chapultepec is a grand castle which is the only one in the American continent for the royal family. The site of the castle was once a fortress by the Aztec empire. The construction of the present-day castle was completed only in 1784. During the French occupation, Empress Carlota designed the lovely garden around the castle’s premises.
Currently, the area around Castillo de Chapultepec is being excavated since 2004 for archaeologists discovered significant ancient Teotihuacán settlement relics. The discovery demonstrates the fact that the Teotihuacán culture started earlier than what was thought of previously.
