Mexico’s most important Marian museum
Behind the old Basilica lies the Museo de la Basilica de Guadalupe which showcases the various art forms that have developed, centered on the Virgin of the Guadalupe. Some of the rooms of the museum were built in 1931 but was inaugurated on October 12, 1941 by Abbott Feliciano Cortes Mora.
The Museo de la Basilica de Guadalupe boasts of a diverse collection that exceeds 1,500 items that include paintings, prints, jewellery, sculpture and textiles made between the 15th and 20th century in Europe mainly from Spain. This museum is considered to be the most important Marian museum in the country.
