But don’t forget, Munich is still the beer capital of the world, host of the most famous beer festival - The Oktoberfest.

Munich’s City Center is a feast for the eyes and stomachs of visitors. Architectural masterpieces like Neues Rathaus, Frauenkirche, and a dozen other landmarks sit so well with the world famous brews of Hofbräu beer at Hofbräuhaus. The city’s hub of transport and culture, there’s an almost unending number of attractions to take in here. Marienplatz to Karlsplatz, don’t miss the city’s famous museums like Münchner Stadtmuseum, or the wondrous churches such as Theatinerkirche.

One of Munich’s most upscale residential neighborhoods, Haidhausen is just to the East of the Munich city center. Noted for being a sort of clubbing Mecca, the area of Kultfabrik here claims to be the largest party zone in Europe. Expect to find a myriad of bars, clubs, restaurants, skate parks, theaters, and entertainment here. The area also noted for such popular attractions as the Deutsches Museum, Museum Villa Stuck, and the famous Gasteig concert hall.

Famous for Munich’s yearly Oktoberfest, Isarvorstadt is one of the most picturesque natural settings in the city. Fantastic green spaces, the Gärtnerplatz, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, countless cafes and bars adorn the neighborhood. Fine restaurants and nightclubs straddling Blumenstraße, Glockenbachviertel and the Gärtnerplatzviertel, there’s no shortage of places to see, and things to do in this neighborhood. And you can’t miss St. Paul’s Church, it’s at the center of everything here.

The Neuhausen-Nymphenburg area of Munich is more laid back than some other parts of the city. Famous for magnificent Nymphenburg Castle, visitors will be a bit surprised to find some of Munich’s best nightclubs and restaurants here. The world’s biggest beer garden, great shopping venues, the tranquil Schloss Nymphenburg gardens, this neighborhood is a favorite hangout for locals. Interestingly, almost impossibly, tourists seldom find their way here, it’s truly an undiscovered gem for many.

The Olympic Park district of Munich is dominated by the old Olympic city constructed for the Olympics of 1972. What became a symbol of a new age of terrorism because of the massacre of Israeli athletes in the Olympic village, stands now as a testament to past and present Munich. Visitors and citizens of Munich still partake of the superb athletic facilities and green spaces here. Be sure and see the fantastic BMW Museum while in this area, as well as the Sea Life aquarium.

One of Munich’s most interesting districts, Schwabing, is a mix of history, architecture, and magnificent green spaces in one central city neighborhood. The area’s biggest attraction, the Englischer Garten, is the the largest city park in all Europe. Here, endless bike and hiking trails, Eisbach stream, and acres of picnic and recreation areas await visitors. Sightseeing, beer gardens, fantastic architectural spots in or new Königsplatz, you’ll spend much of your time in Munich here.

For a more rural experience while visiting Munich, the Thalkirchen is a bit of a departure from the typical perception of the city. Visitors here will find a far more relaxed atmosphere, some might even call it a boring part of an otherwise vibrant city. Green spaces, the famous Zoo Hellabrunn, and numerous places to light a bonfire along the Isar, especially at Flaucher, are some of the diversions. Expect the great outdoors and a lot fewer tourists here.
