A city born to trade
New Orleans shopping reflects the city’s reputation as a world-class trading center. The city was founded as a mercantile crossroads and has not faltered in that mission. The French Quarter is an endless bazaar of rare antiques, vintage clothes, small shops that make their own perfumes and tons of tasteless T-shirts, silly hats and tasteless souvenirs. Music stores are a specialty, heavy on New Orleans artists, of course. Check out the open-air markets around town almost every weekend.
