History and archeology museum of Cimiez and Nice
Musee et Site Archeologiques de Cimiez was founded in 1960. It’s first location, the Villa des Arenes, hosts today Musee Matisse. The current location was inaugurated in 1989. The museum boasts a number of collections that relate to the Metal Ages, antiquity and develop to the early Middle Ages.
Musee et Site Archeologiques de Cimiez is renowned for its remarkably well-preserved Roman baths dating from the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The location, the ancient city of Cemenelum, former capital of the Alpes Maritimae province, led to many other important discoveries, including statues, stelae, sarcophagi, vases, dishes, jewelry, perfume bottles, pins, coins, pieces of furniture and other objects that evoke the daily lives of the people that once lived in this region.
