Northern California's only public bonsai collection
The Bonsai Garden on the shores of Lake Merritt is the only public bonsai collection in Northern California. Ran by the Golden State Bonsai Federation, it has been one of the Demonstration Garden at Oakland’s Lakeside Park top attractions since 1999.
The Bonsai Garden showcases 250 beautiful bonsai trees and their magnificent display in a Japanese style garden. The collection’s curator, Kathy Shaner, is the only Japanese-certified bonsai master in the United States.
