The largest cemetery in Paris
The Cimetière du Père-Lachaise is unquestionably the largest cemetery in the city of Paris, and is one of the most famous in the world. Not only is it home to many famous people, but it also displays three beautiful memorials to those who lost their lives in WW I. Maps of the cemetery are available.
The Cimetière du Père-Lachaise was one of the many established by Napoleon after the closure of the Saints Innocents Cemetery. The concern was that cemeteries located inside Paris would cause health hazards so this was one of the newly established burial grounds during that time. There are over 109 acres of land with an unbelievable number of famous people interred here.
