Home of the Great Steeplechase
The Hippodrome d'Auteuil is a horse racing venue located on Route de Lacs in Paris. It is a vast 82 acre racecourse that opened up in 1873. It has steeple chasing only, and is home to the Great Paris Steeplechase race that has been an annual tradition since 1874.
Over the years the Hippodrome d'Auteuil has undergone many alterations including a reduction of the course distance in 1981. The Great Paris Steeplechase was formerly known as the Grand National of France, and is currently preceded by the popular Defile des Drags, a parade of glorious horse-drawn carriages.
