An historical bookstore in Paris
Shakespeare and Company Bookstore is an independent bookstore that was opened up by American George Whitman in 1951. It specializes in classic English language literature, but also houses young writers who work short hours at the shop to help them in their “starving artist” stage of life.
Shakespeare and Company Bookstore was named in honor of the original Sylvia Beach store locate on this same street so many years ago. That location was where great writers like Earnest Hemingway and his cohorts gathered in years past.
