The final resting place of many great Czechs
Vyšehrad has been the seat of Czech princes for a long time, and its cemetery is the final resting place of over 600 Czech personalities - composers, artists, sculptors, writers and politicians. The Vyšehrad Cemetery (Vyšehradský hřbitov) is sometimes referred to as the Slavín cemetery.
The cemetery was established in 1869 on the grounds of Vyšehrad Castle, and its center piece is the Slavín Monument designed by Antonín Wiehl.
Visiting the Vyšehrad Cemetery (Vyšehradský hřbitov) you will find a large number of stunning funerary sculptures - a true expression of the Czech artistic development from the second half of the l9th century to present.
