A blooming art scene for all tastes
With its mixture of cultures and races, Brazil must rank as one of the most creative nations on earth and, as Brazil’s cultural capital, Rio de Janeiro does not disappoint. A growing number of Rio de Janeiro art galleries and boutiques are springing up all across the city, catering for a variety of tastes, from graffiti lovers to water-colour freaks. Most of the best new galleries are opening in the southern neighbourhoods such as Ipanema and Leblon, but the centre has its art galleries too. Santa Teresa’s annual ‘Portas Abertas’ (Open Doors) exhibition, when local artists open their ateliers to the public, is a must-see for art lovers.
