A permanent exhibition from the Capitoline Museum
The Centrale Montemartini is located in the former Giovanni Montemartini Thermoelectric Centre. The exhibition was placed here to display hundreds of sculptures from the Capitoline Museum among Roman industrial archeology. Since 1997, it has played a role as part of the Capitoline Museum Complex.
At the Montemartini Museum, visitors will find such treasures as the Togato Barberini, an aristocrat from Rome of 90 BC, carrying two heads, following an old custom in Republican Rome to pay tribute to ancestors. The site is not only the location of Centrale Montemartini's permanent exhibition, but is also a center to study various display methods, particularly those connected to scientific research on remains. This project is part of efforts to convert Ostiense Marconi, the oldest industrial area in Rome, into a rich cultural center.
