San Francisco's most popular tourist attraction
Fisherman’s Wharf has been one of the city’s most popular tourist areas for ages. Here, tourists will find a variety of shops, restaurants, street vendors and the beautiful view of the bay. You will find departures for boat rides and tours, as well as Pier 39, home to many California sea lion
Not very many people visit San Francisco without making it to Fisherman’s Wharf. Its main focus was once on the fishing industry, and although it’s still functioning as a fishing pier, it’s main focus is now on tourism. Shopping and entertainment are in abundance from Ghirardelli Square, home of the famous chocolate makers, to the well-known Pier 39. And the view of the ocean is breathtaking.
Take a stroll to witness street performers, visit shops selling trinkets and souvenirs, and eat some of the best seafood you can sink your teeth into. Check out the seafood street vendors or grab some clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. You can even hop on a ferry or find a boat departing for one of San Francisco’s highlighted tours.
The kids will love Fisherman’s Wharf, too. An arcade is there for them to enjoy, along with a carousel and a real World War II submarine that they can explore. Don’t leave without visiting the California Sea Lions that have taken over Pier 39 as their home. If you’re there on a weekend day and the weather is pleasant, take the kids to listen to the educational talk given by the Marine Mammal Center on these barking, playful creatures.
