The Mission that started Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara Mission is the tenth of the California missions founded by the Spanish Franciscans. It was established in 1786, on the Feast of St. Barbara, celebrated on December 4.
Santa Barbara Mission hosts a rich and varied colonial art collection. Most of the items they currently have are from the baroque or neoclassical eras, and the vast majority was imported from Mexico and South America. Today, the Mission still functions as a church.
