Shanghai's "Central Park"
People’s Square (Renmin Guang Chang) is more of an urban park than a public square. The carefully manicured greenery, (complete with a small lake and a rock garden, makes the ideal spot for people watching. The park is always busy, as attractions like the Shanghai Museum are at its heart.
People’s Square (Renmin Guang Chang) was built on the site of a 1863 horse-racing track. The park opened in 1951, and it gained popularity with its amusement rides, and high quality dining venues. Other than these, you will find the park to be Shanghai’s cultural center, home of the Grand Theatre, the 20-story Municipal Hall, and the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
