Forget the superstars and head underground
There’s still some way to go before Tokyo can call itself a major club capital to rank alongside London or New York, but you won’t be starved for choice here. Most weekends see international superstars taking to the decks of the bigger Tokyo nightclubs, and sometimes spinning low-key sets at the smaller venues too. The less well-known venues can often be the most fun, with extraordinarily knowledgeable and dedicated fans hosting tightly themed events. Whether your taste is pop, noise or northern soul, you’ll find a scene in this city.
