The best seafood spot in Turin
Probably the best fish restaurant in Turin, Mare Nostrum is in a quiet street near piazza Vittorio Veneto. There are three rooms with smoking and non-smoking sections, all attractively furnished. The menu offers only fish and varies according to what the market has to offer that day.
You can start with the mixed antipasti – tiny dishes of, for example, marinated anchovies, sea snails in a spicy sauce, baby squid marinated in wine and swordfish involtini. For the first course there is a choice of four or five pasta dishes; spagh-etti alla chitarra with fish ragù is recommended. The main courses always include a deliciously light fritto di paranza (mixed grill), oven-cooked fish and, when in season, moleche.
The wine list is all white and features some excellent labels from southern Italy and Sicily.
