Iglesia de San Juan del Hospital

Hitoric church built in the XIIIth century

Stay Editor's Note

Iglesia de San Juan del Hospital is a Gothic and Baroque-style church, erected in the thirteenth century on land donated by James I to the knights of the order San Juan del Hospital and Malta. The church is dedicated to San Juan Bautista ( John the Baptist).

Iglesia de San Juan del Hospital is the first church built in Valencia after the Cathedral. This gave it an important role in processions at the time, despite the fact that it was not a parish church. The church gets its name from a former hospital that stood here - Orden de Jerusalem, del Hospital, de Rodas y de Malta.
