A masterwork of 17th Century architecture
Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute is a masterpiece of 17th-century architecture. The dominating octagonal dome contains a lantern revealing an image of the Madonna. As seen from the Grand Canal, the church is one of Venice's most recognizable landmarks, and most beautiful churches.
The interior of the church consists of a nave, three chapels laid out across a fascinating marble floor with a design of five roses at its center. A magnificent altar, also designed by 20 year old visionary Longhena, is unbelievably ornate. Visitors can also see Tintoretto's Le Nozze di Cana, and gaze at the church's vestry ceiling adorned with paintings by Titian.
