Unlike other regions in Italy, the Veneto is not viewed as a culinary centre. Some Venice restaurants also have a reputation as rip-off joints. However, you can eat extremely well without forking out a fortune. Many restaurants excel in fish dishes and local fare such as risotto. Wine from this region is exceptional, providing the perfect accompaniment to your meal and, if you head to the right places, you will find that Venice's poor reputation is decidedly undeserved.
