The city of the Seven Mountains

De syv fjell (The Seven Mountains) surround the center of the misty harbor town of Bergen. Nestled on the country’s rocky west coast, Bergen is exciting and charming, an ideal starting point for fjord tours and cruises. Bryggen – the medieval fish market street - also known as Tyskebryggen (the German Wharf), is one of the city’s most picturesque sights. Bryggen has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1979 – a well deserved accolade, for its unique architecture.

Famous Key hiding place for the Norwegian resistence in WW 2

Key hiding place for the Norwegian resistence in WW 2 Editors' Note

The secret room as it was known, is where the Theta Group Resistance Movement in WW II met. During the occupation of Norway from 1940 to 1945, the group established a network of communication with the government in exile from here.

The room is now part of a museum which helps tell their story. The group consisted of young Norwegians between 19 and 22 years, who helped the allies by sending strategic information over their network, a dangerous act if you can imagine. Another fascinating spot to check out for history buffs.
